Android 2.3 gingerbread : Android 2.3 Gingerbread is amost the hottest topics in the android world right now. Whether it is curiosity about receiving the OTA upgrade or if it is all it is cracked up to be, the forums are flooded with Gingerbread discussion. Among the fabled upgrades are speed and performance enhancements, a refreshed UI, new text selection, and more.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread adds API support for several new sensor types, including gyroscope, rotation vector, linear acceleration, gravity, and barometer sensors. Applications can use the new sensors in combination with any other sensors available on the device, to track three-dimensional device motion and orientation change with high precision and accuracy.

Everyone has been speculating that Gingerbread will bring vast improvements to the UI of Android and with that an easier to use OS. Personally, I try not to get too excited about iterative updates. Considering that this is a “point” upgrade (2.2 to 2.3) I highly doubt we are going to see a completely overhauled UI. It would make more sense that Honeycomb would bring this to the table as a 3.0 product, but there is also the idea that Honeycomb will be for tablets as Gingerbread for phones.
