Android 3.0 SDK Officially Released
Feb 24th
Google has released a full SDK for Android 3.0, aka Honeycomb, Mountain View’s mobile operating system targeted squarely at fondleslabs.
"The APIs are final, and you can now develop apps targeting this new platform and publish them to Android Market," SDK Tech Lead Xavier Ducrohet announced in a post on the Android Developer blog.
The release of the full SDK comes just under a month after Google released a preview of the SDK in late January.
Along with the new platform, Ducrohet also announced updates to the SDK Tool (r10) and the ADT Plugin for Eclipse (10.0.0). Goodies promised in these updates include More >
Gmail App Updated For Gingerbread To Include Long Press To Copy Text
Feb 24th
In a minor update to the official Gmail app, Google has addressed one of "the little things" that have been plaguing Android since the beginning. In this case, a lack of uniformity for copying text.
In all previous versions of the Gmail app, a user would have to press Menu, More, and then Select Text. Fortunately, this update fixes that issue by making copying text the same as in the Browser or a textbox: by long pressing it. It’s not a huge addition, and is only available for those with devices running Gingerbread, but it is definitely a step in the positive direction.
The update also brings the More >

Schmidt talked about the next steps the Google Android OS will take in the future, and how the company would venture into the future of smartphones. Most important news that could be taken from the keynote perhaps is something that’s related to the much awaited next generation Google Android OS – the Ice Cream. According to Schmidt, the Google Android Ice Cream will combine features of Gingerbread and Honeycomb.
Gingerbread (Android 2.3) is the current newest Android OS for smartphones (although More >

This is going to be a big month for tablet developers! The Motorola Xoom is grabbing some nice reviews, and the impending iPad 2 is getting a lot of rotation in the rumor mill. And now, Google’s latest Android sweet thing is extremely tablet-centric. Android 3.0, dubbed Honeycomb is now hot in the hands of developers.
In addition to optimized dual-core processor and 3D graphics support, Android 3.0 also touts some major improvements to tablet UI. Browser tabs! Now there’s a novel idea! (hint, hint, Apple…)
I have installed a handful of Android SDK releases in the past. Every time I was turned More >

Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) update now rolling out to Nexus S and Nexus One. Be patient, may take a few weeks for OTA to complete.
